IDSA Women in Design presents Fireside chat with Cameron Campbell
Please join Ti Chang of Crave + IDSA hosting an intimate fireside chat with Cameron Campbell.
From Ti: As we are winding down the year 2015, I want to do a special event that expresses my gratitude for this community of women in design. Cameron has been a particularly inspiring figure whose design ethos transcend all boundaries and as importantly she believes in giving back to the design community.
My session: Vibrator Design as a Reflection of Culture
You can see the beliefs and culture of a society by examining the objects it produces. From simple wooden chopsticks to complex coffee machines, the design of objects can reflect our values—for better or worse. This point can be emphasized by examining the controversial and often taboo topic of female sex toys, and vibrators in particular. By tracing the design evolution of a vibrator, we can appreciate the immense change in social attitudes with regard to the experience of sexual pleasure. Ti Chang designs vibrators. She finds that no matter what you design, by understanding the history of a product and appreciating the culture that guided its design, we can begin creating a better future.
Aesthetics in Industrial Design: a panel discussion from leading designers on their personal process and approach to discovering beauty in products.
Aesthetics is a principle that can be difficult to discuss absolutely, yet we can see it and feel it when it is achieved. We will hear from award-winning industrial designers working at consultancy and in-house to discuss the role of aesthetics in their work. Joe Tan & Markus Diebel of Moreless, Qin Li of Fuseproject, and Nichole Rouillac of HTC will share their personal process and approach to capturing beauty in products, followed by a panel discussion with Q&A moderated by Ti Chang of Crave and IDSA.
We're taking crowdfunding to the next level by crowdsourcing the best vibrations patterns for our latest product Flex! We are giving you the opportunity to do a little DIY to program your own vibrator. Learn more at: crave.tilt.com/flex
